Searching for real treasure

Searching for real treasure

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. — Luke 12:34

It seems that we put a lot of emphasis on things in our day. We see politicians who want power. Business leaders who want money. People who want things like the latest gadgets. There is never a shortage of wants as it seems people are always focused on building what could be considered ‘treasure’ in this world.

That’s what the world tells us we should be doing. We are told we should be working to own and obtain the best. We are told we should always want more. Wanting more is not necessarily a bad thing, but wanting more of the wrong things is a bad thing.

As Jesus was speaking to the disciples, we find this verse in Luke 12 where He tells the disciples that where they place their treasure, that is where their heart is. He had just finished telling the disciples the importance of putting their treasures in Heaven, not in the things of the world.

He was teaching them that spreading the gospel and the love of Christ was more important than anything else. So rather than focusing on how to store up all the wealth of this world, He said that the disciples should be focused on how they can store up treasures in heaven.

Rather than searching for all the treasure that this world can offer, we should turn our eyes toward the eternal treasure. It is not that we should not provide for our families or even try to do our best. We should not become so consumed searching for the treasure of this world that we lose out on the treasures of Heaven.

Our prayer should be that God would set the desire of our hearts on Him so that we want so much more God in our lives.
