When your world is turned upside down

When your world is turned upside down
Share with others

Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. – Job 1:20 & 21

There have been several days throughout history that seemed to turn the world upside down. Days like September 11 and December 7 at Pearl Harbor quickly come to mind. There are many others throughout history and Scripture, like the day that Jesus was crucified or the day that the Israelites crossed the sea on dry ground.

Sometimes these days affect a large group of people, but many times the days that turn worlds upside down are personal ones. A great example of this is found here in the case of Job. In the verses just before this, Job’s entire world was turned upside down. In just a matter of minutes, he lost his children and his possessions. In just a few quick moments, his world was turned upside down.

Perhaps you have had some of those days too. It could have been when you found out your job was being eliminated. Or perhaps you had one of those days when you or a loved one found out about a cancer diagnosis or other sickness. Maybe it was a tragic event like a car accident that turned your world upside down.

Things happen that turn our world upside down from time to time. There is nothing we can do to stop those events from happening. No amount of righteous living can prevent it, because if it did these events wouldn’t have happened to Job. He was found to be righteous and a just man and his world was still turned upside down.

We have to realize that when our world is turned upside down, God is still God. Even in the midst of all that happened to him, Job still said “blessed be the name of the Lord.” When our world is turned upside down, don’t forget that God is still God and He is still in control. We may not understand what is happening, but He does. We must put our faith and trust in Him.
